Currently in Philadelphia — October 9, 2023: Chilly with some clouds

Plus, September was the largest monthly climate anomaly ever observed.

The weather, currently.

Chilly, with some clouds

Sunday morning, my dad and I hit the Wissahickon for what felt like the first real fall hike of the season. We ran into a lot of very impressive joggers training for the Marathon in November, so if that sounds like you, today is another great day for it. We’ll have a crisp and somewhat cloudy Indigenous People’s Day, with a high of 62˚F and likely some chilly winds. Make sure to pack a jacket or have one of those silver space blanket things waiting for you in the car. Late tonight, there’s a slight chance of showers, but you’ve got work tomorrow, so you should be in bed by then.

What you need to know, currently.

One of the best climate strategies is returning stolen land to Indigenous people — this is what climate justice looks like.

This year, in advance of Indigenous Peoples Day, the NDN Collective has launched a Just Transition fund to help build technical capacity for frontline groups to continue the #landback fight.

Indigenous people already protect the vast majority of the world’s biodiversity, with technologies such as prescribed fire and responsible resource harvesting. It’s time for the rest of society to follow their lead.
